WEDDING
Western Wedding
A wedding is a ceremony where two people are united in marriage. Wedding traditions and customs vary greatly between cultures, ethnic groups, religions, countries, and social classes. Most wedding ceremonies involve an exchange of marriage vows by the couple, presentation of a gift (offering, ring), symbolic item, flowers, money), and a public proclamation of marriage by an authority figure. Special wedding garments are often worn, and the ceremony is sometimes followed by a wedding reception. Music, poetry, prayers or readings from religious texts or literature are also commonly incorporated into the ceremony.
Tradition Thai Wedding
A Thai wedding generally consists of two parts: the legal and the ceremonial. These are done separately. There is no requirement of government documentation to have a religious ceremony, which is most common with Thai people. This is considered by many to be the real wedding. Normally, weddings in Thailand are Buddhist. A bride token is still common but arranged are rare.
Two type of gifts from the husband-to-be, are considered cultural requirements: “Kong Mun” and “Sin Sod” is a gift of gold jewelry that is given when the wedding is announced, or later—before the wedding ceremony.
